The Number Seven Music Academy brings together years of teaching and real-world experience of carefully chosen musicians to create a new and exciting way for children to learn contemporary music skills.
Each of us is passionate about inspiring a new generation of musicians. We aim to motivate our students to explore their potential… as future performers, writers, session artists or, ultimately, just for the confidence and fun that comes from developing a skill that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.
We hope that you find this website a useful introduction to what we do. If your child wants to learn how to play (and is up for the hard work and practice involved) come and see us soon.

Teaching philosophy
We believe children learn best when high quality teaching is combined with the regular opportunity to play together in a band and to perform live in front of an audience.
Our school gigs give you and their friends a regular chance to come and watch them play and to appreciate what they have achieved.
A rounded (and employable!) musician can play in any genre and therefore we draw upon a wide variety of styles throughout our courses, introducing influential artists throughout the decades to help our students to understand the ancestry behind what they are listening to today and what they might create in the future.
Between us, we have many years of teaching experience giving us a wealth of knowledge about how children learn…
Good habits and accurate technique builds a much better platform for success than learning fast and muddling through, so we teach extensively around the Rockschool syllabus, focusing on demonstration followed by fun and varied exercises during which our tutors give tailored guidance to each and every student.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU
We believe that all students deserve and benefit from formal confirmation of the progress they are making and have chosen Rockschool as our examining body, based upon the breadth of their syllabuses and the global recognition enjoyed by their widely respected qualifications.
In 1991, Norton York and Simon Pitt created the world’s first popular music grades so that contemporary musicians could have access to recognised, accredited grade exams in the same way that classical players had.
Now operating in nearly 20 countries around the world, Rockschool is the leading provider of contemporary music exams worldwide.
They are fully accredited and successful candidates in their Grade 6, 7 and 8 exams also qualify for UCAS points (helping with entry into higher education).
Rockschool’s Grade exams are designed to test performance, technical skills and general musicianship, candidates work towards being awarded a pass, pass with merit or pass with distinction.
Students will typically take Grade exams towards the end of the spring term and receive their results within six weeks of taking their exam.
Our experienced teachers will provide all of the guidance and support that your child needs to supplement the practice that they do at home, including providing a mock exam in the weeks leading up to their formal assessment.
Come and see us
This gives your child a chance to see whether they enjoy our lesson format and our teachers a chance to assess your child’s ability so that we can recommend the right class for them to join.
Whilst your child is enjoying their lesson, you will have theopportunity to talk to the school manager about how the Academy works and to ask anyquestions that you might have.
If, at the end of this session, you would like to enrol your child then you can reserve their place by:
- Completing our Application form
- Paying their first month fees by cash or bank transfer
- Set up a DD so that fees can be collected in monthly instalments (on the first day of each month) evenly throughout the calendar year.
Parents and friends should make a special note in their calendars each year of the dates for our Summer & Christmas gigs which provide the perfect opportunity for our students to play for you to demonstrate the progress that they have made.
